That encompasses people such as ourselves – in older age cohorts a near majority – who were brought up within mainstream Protestant traditions.
We have witnessed across decades as rightwing evangelical churches turned the Jesus we grew up with into the total contrary of who we understood him to be. At its most basic, they turned a figure of affection into a figure of hate who blesses specifically the brutality that he condemned in the Gospel; this has happened more gradually, over decades instead of months, but it is nonetheless disturbing in the same ways, a bewildering emotional blow for numerous individuals.
A Harmful Christianity Establishes Itself
Hence I shall explain the Savior from my upbringing, because theoretically the Savior is the core of Christian religion, and because the quickly increasing segment among Americans may possess limited understanding about him since they are atheists or agnostics or religiously unaffiliated.
