One of the original creators behind the famous ice cream brand Ben and Jerry's has announced how corporate owner the multinational conglomerate prevented the launch of a new Palestine-themed ice cream flavor.

The entrepreneur, that co-founded the company with his partner, announced that he will personally create this new product as part of an individual collection showcasing causes the company has been prevented from speaking out about.

Ongoing Dispute Involving Creators versus Corporate Owner

The recent development deepens the ongoing disagreement among the internationally recognized dessert company and Unilever, the British packaged goods giant that has owned the ice cream brand for over two decades.

Both founders have asserted how the parent company along with their ice cream division the Magnum brand unlawfully blocked Ben & Jerry's from "honouring its social mission".

Watermelon Sorbet as an Emblem of Support

Mr. Cohen stated via social media that he's developing a new watermelon-based sorbet, asking for consumer ideas for naming options plus additional components.

“I'm doing what they couldn't,” Mr. Cohen stated in a cooking set. “I'm making a watermelon-flavored ice cream that calls for permanent peace for Palestinians while demanding repairing the damage that was done there.”

This particular fruit has become a symbol for solidarity with Palestinians due to its coloration, that mirror those of Palestine's national banner – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Previous Activism and Recent Developments

Several years ago, the ice cream company refused to sell its products in areas under Israeli control, resulting in the parent company selling their Israel business over to an Israeli distributor, thus allowing ongoing distribution within the occupied West Bank.

This upcoming product line is being created through Ben's Best, the activist dessert company that originally created in 2016 to support former political contender Senator Sanders via the product "Bernie's Back".

Management Changes plus Future Plans

The founder indicated how he plans to develop other ice cream flavors that address issues that Ben & Jerry's was silenced from speaking about openly due to Unilever.

This development follows co-founder Mr. Greenfield resigned his position at Ben & Jerry's recently, following many years with the organization, citing concerns that the company's autonomy was compromised after corporate moves to restrict its social activism.

At that time, Mr. Cohen commented how “My partner has a really big heart and this conflict with Unilever was deeply distressing him."

“My conscience compels me to continue to work within the organization to fight for corporate autonomy so that it can fulfill the social mission, the principles which established its foundation while upholding for over 40 years," he told journalists.
