First-choice XI

Nico O’Reilly One more assured display by the 20-year-old after his initial appearance versus Serbia. Saka did not capitalize on the most of a clever touch behind the opposing backline. The role is his to lose at this stage. 7

Adam Wharton A debut start in an England shirt. A bit loose in possession though his dangerous deliveries caused problems. A useful pace-controller for the boss to utilize versus teams who drop deep. Booked for a rash foul. 6

The midfielder Set-pieces from dead balls and set-plays caused problems. Had freedom to roam down the left flank but was offside when the ball arrived in front of goal. Given a well-earned rest after an hour. 6/10

Jude Bellingham Functioned in an advanced position out wide and also did plenty of dirty work. Displayed moments of class but dragged an effort high. Substituted towards the end for a teammate, his rival, following a yellow card. 7/10

The winger Had England’s clearest opportunity of the first half, his shot smartly stopped by the opposing goalkeeper. With a teammate holding position, it fell to him to stretch the play down the right side yet his deliveries from wide areas were inconsistent. Taken off for the final quarter-hour. 6

Harry Kane The match-winner with his seventy-seventh and seventy-eighth goals for his country. The first a typical poacher’s finish while the second a superb headed goal having drifted away away from the opposition. At 32, he continues to improve and the side are strong contenders next summer when he's in the team. 8/10

Eberechi Eze Had difficulty to make an impact from the left. Was presented with a good opening after being played in by the midfielder however Strakosha kept it out. His replacement produced a bigger influence after coming on. Five
