Manchester United Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
