Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback Medvedev won his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a former number one, has endured a challenging season, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and finally separating with long-time coach Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents his maiden championship following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface after March of that year.

Victory also means the Russian has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one different competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a trophy is particularly special," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my child her name, because the first title I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, featuring in Halle in the past months.

His defensive approach and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had led some to wonder if his capacity to play at the top level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform assertively, reinforced by an improved serve.

He came back from a deficit in the first set against the challenging opponent, taking four of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial tour title, took control to create a third set.

He defended four early-game opportunities in a competitive third set before the Russian won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner earned victory with a point at the net area, with Moutet failing to control a return after over two and a half hours.
