American Military Executes Deadly Strike in Pacific, Leading to 4 Deaths

As stated by a senior defense official, the American armed forces carried out a lethal kinetic engagement on a boat in the Pacific Ocean, killing four individuals.

“Joint Task Force Southern Spear carried out a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel linked to a terrorist group in open sea. Surveillance verified the vessel was traveling along a known drug smuggling route and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations. A total of four male drug traffickers were eliminated, and no American forces were harmed.”

Background and Prior Strikes

The statement comes a day after a declaration regarding a naval blockade of all targeted oil tankers to and from Venezuela. That statement on social media, the US president alleged Venezuela of using oil profits to fund drug trafficking and other crimes, pledging to escalate the military buildup.

Only on Tuesday, US defense officials said it had carried out strikes on three boats suspected of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, killing eight people. Beginning on 2 September, over 20 strikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 people, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.

Administration Justifies Actions Amidst Scrutiny

The administration has encountered growing demands to make public video of a September 2nd vessel attack. However, officials have refused to do so. The administration has supported its campaign as a successful operation, arguing it has prevented drugs from reaching US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is stretching the limits of legal military action.

While the administration has said the operation is about stopping drugs headed to the US, remarks from a top official appeared to suggest a wider geopolitical objective. In a recent interview, the senior advisor said the leader “wants to keep on blowing boats up until the Venezuelan president cries uncle.”

This indicates the series of strikes may be linked to a push to remove Venezuela's sitting government.
